In Big Old Marigolds, the flowers emerge through the physical behavior of paint itself. Thick passages of orange are allowed to drip, stain, and settle into the surface. Transparent veils of green and yellow are brushed, wiped, and layered, creating a shifting atmosphere around the stems and vessel.
The marigolds feel less arranged than grown — pulled upward through gravity, movement, and revision. Drips remain visible. Edges are left unresolved. The painting holds the evidence of its making: pressure, hesitation, correction, insistence.
