Flowers in a Bowl begins with the familiar language of a floral still life, but the image quickly loosens into something more ambiguous. Pale blossoms, dark stems, and isolated flashes of orange, red, and green move across a field of cool gray-blue and lavender.
The flowers are less described than suggested. Some forms emerge clearly while others dissolve into gesture, fragments, and open space. The painting holds together as a still life while continually slipping toward abstraction, allowing observation, memory, and invention to occupy the same space.
