Roots of Lake Superior captures the layered color, movement, and intricate surface of the original painting. Deep blues, luminous greens, and passages of pale turquoise move around a strong central form, while branches, marks, and fragments suggest a landscape that is simultaneously observed, remembered, and invented.
The image shifts as you look at it. From a distance, it reads as a whole environment; up close, it breaks apart into lines, textures, small incidents, and unexpected relationships. Like much of my recent work, the painting is less about depicting a particular place than about the experience of moving through landscape and memory.
Each reproduction is printed by me in my studio using archival pigment inks on high-quality fine art canvas, giving the image a rich, painting-like surface and texture. These are open-edition reproductions, not numbered limited editions.
Presentation: Although printed on canvas, these works are intended to be presented more like drawings or works on paper—matted, framed, and placed under glazing rather than stretched over stretcher bars. The white border becomes an important part of the presentation and gives the image a more intimate, contemplative presence.
