To travel is, in many ways, to shed the skin of habit and expectation. To travel is to reinvent the self. For an artist that is also a reinvention and renewal of their art.

Some of my most memorable journeys have been shared. Alongside my friend, the poet Richard Robbins, I have co-led travel experiences to South America and Scotland. These adventures incorporate poetry and painting to teach our fellow travelers to savor the journey through the creative process.

I also camp with my partner in life, Wilbur. We love to pack up our fabulous Airstream trailer and head out onto the open road, exploring our State and National parks. A favorite destination is the unique town of Grand Marais, on the wild shores of Lake Superior in Northern Minnesota.

While I travel I create artwork. I find great inspiration in the commonplace of a new place. The work you see on this page is some of the work I have produced on our travels. I never look to the “grand view” or the “perfect scene”, rather I seek beauty at the base of an old tree, a bit of grass by a rock or the edge of a pond.
